Malaysia

Malaysia seeks to support sustainable economic growth, enhance energy security, and combat climate change, while also fostering innovation and job creation in the renewable energy sector.

Currently, from 2020 to 2024, Malaysia is implementing a renewable energy policy with specific targets to integrate more renewable sources like solar, wind, biomass, and hydropower into the national energy mix. These efforts align with the country's goal to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, mitigate environmental impacts, and transition towards a sustainable and greener energy future.

Malaysia seeks to become a competitive producer of clean hydrogen, emphasizing technology development, safety improvements, and cost reduction.

Malaysia is part of the Global Clean Hydrogen Programme, funded by GEF. The Child Pproject in the country will contribute to enhance national institutional capacities, enabling policy frameworks and improve technological readiness for the successful uptake of green hydrogen in Malaysia to ensure net zero development with social considerations and benefits. This approach will particularly contribute to enabling Malaysia in meeting its national decarbonization targets and provide valuable knowledge and expertise for the production and local uptake of green hydrogen.
